TRI-CALIFORNIA EVENTS BRINGS BACK THE ICONIC
“SAN FRANCISCO TRIATHLON AT ALCATRAZ” IN 2016

SAN FRANCISCO, CA. (November 12, 2015) – Tri-California Events is thrilled to announce the highly-anticipated return of The San Francisco Triathlon at Alcatraz on August 21, 2016. Known for its rough water Alcatraz channel crossing, hilly and challenging course, the San Francisco Triathlon at Alcatraz participant field will be limited to the first 900 registered athletes. The course is designed by athletes, for athletes, to feature the city of San Francisco and local communities, clubs and businesses for their amazing qualities.
“We are proud to have a close relationship with the many triathlon clubs in our tight knit community of endurance sports and a 33 year history of top notch triathlon production”, says Terry Davis CEO of Tri-California. “After hundreds of emails asking us to reopen our San Francisco Triathlon at Alcatraz we couldn’t deny that there is a place and need for the race we launched in 2010, but had to put on hold for the American’s Cup.” Tri-California has been well known for their ties to San Francisco, designing many courses in the area and has always loved race directing alongside the wonderful athletes and volunteers that the community brings.
For the past years Tri-California, with the help of legendary open water swimmer Gary Emich, have continued to produce the successful and world-renowned Alcatraz Challenge Aquathlons attracting athletes from across the globe. Terry Davis explains, “As we waited patiently for the city to approve several submittals for permits for our bike course, we knew that the time would be clear about when we should re-launch this great event and this seems like a very clear sign the market has a need.”
“This is an expensive race to put on with the boat, water safety, SF Permits and Police and so many more elements” says Terry Davis. “However, we value our relationship with the triathletes that have supported us over the years and wanted to provide a premier destination, top quality event at a reasonable price,” This reinstated event will be part of an annual triathlon calendar that includes Wildflower, Pacific Grove, and Tinley’s.
The San Francisco Triathlon at Alcatraz begins with a boat jump and 1.5-mile swim from historic Alcatraz Island, a hilly 20-mile bike leg, and a challenging 7-mile run to include the world famous destinations.
Registration will open Friday, November 13th.
